With regards to ht ethread in p.g, here is a sample image of a 'real' lens
flare. As you can see, a lot of work still needs to be done to perfect it,
but I don't think I'm going to try at the moment, the rendering is too time
consuming. This scene took 17m with no AA, no media, no isosurfaces, just
reflection/refraction through a lens system.

BTW, the light source is not in front of the camera, it is its reflection on
the sphere that makes it visible.

Hmm, if you did this without any objects in the scene, and outputted
transparency, you could use the resulting image to create image maps for
*quick* lens flares.

If you want 'quick image map' flares, why not create them using the lens
flare includes that are currently available (Chris Colefax's and Nathan
Kopp's), and an image editing program?

You could skip refraction, in this case.

Fabien.

I would assume Trevor is doing it because there's so much more satisfaction
in making your own than using someone else's. Why *not* do it? Besides, this
way, the lens flares you create can be physically realistic.

Not to mention the other physically realistic lens effects you
can create. No more of that wimpy setting the camera's zoom
amount with a number! Do it the real way! ;)
