Difference a text object perhaps.
The metal looks like it has too much ambience.
Model looks good though, I wonder what it looks like from the front.

For the inscription you could do a black and white image, black text white
background then smooth the HF in a paint program and then use that as in 
a difference with the body of the clock.

Yep, you can indeed difference a HF out of another object, always 
assuming that the other object can be used in a difference...
