everybody is showing good work based on Kari Kivisalo´s milk code.
So I show another example with subsurface scattering.

There are many objects, which look like plastic when rendered.
This is especially true for rendered food like Ingo´s nicely modeled lemon
slice.
I added interior components to the different parts of the slice and tweaked
the textures a bit.
Shown are two lemon slices with and without subsurface scattering (not very
good, only a quick hack).

In my opinion Kari´s excellent work offers much potential. For example most
things with high water content like leaves, food, ketchup, blood, cremes or
any kind of translucent slime can benefit from subsurface scattering (not to
forget milky glass or thin chinese porcelaine...).

Nice, but i think to really judge realism in this case some environment
would be mandatory (something behind for the translucency and something in
front for the reflection.

I think the shell(?) texture could be improved (maybe some media would be
good for that too) and the white parts of the interior should be brighter.

BTW, what's the difference in speed?

Christoph
