Did you place it in front of bent one-way mirrors made with interior
texture?

In a reflective sphere (which is over a checkered plane, of course)?

A reflective superellipsoid ? Cool effect.

You are still close, but not quite yet...

The most interesting aspect of this are the reflections receding into the
'apparent' distance. They are symmetrical about his back but not the sides,
which look like copies rather than infinite reflections. Also the angle
seems to change slightly with each copy. I'm gonna guess it is some sort of
strange projection effect similar to a parabolic holographic projection.
Also his feet appear to be on a flat surface but there is some curvature
distortion from top to bottom, but not nearly as pronounced as that running
vertically just beyond the bridge of his nose.

It's as if he were exploring the inner passageways of space vessel of a very
vanity prone race. This could be modelled with a torus, perhaps slightly
flattened and/or clipped with a plane near the bottom.

Am I even close?
