The following images are 1: with photones and 2: without photons (for
comparison)
max_trace_level 85
parse = ~3 min
photone count 1000000
render time = ~1hr 35 min 1024x768
pentium III 500 256 Mb Ram
These do not have any media, unlike the previous image, I could not get the
media and photons to play well together.

There's only one problem to an otherwise amazing picture. It's very
hard to differentiate between the "black" pieces and the "white" pieces.

Yeah, I always seem to have problems getting glass to be clear,
refractive and visible, all at the same time. I think that I need to
work on the lighting and the actual definition of the glass texture. I
wish I could look at a piece of leaded crystal, floating in a black
space illuminated by on or two lights so I could see first hand what it
*should* look like.

It's not always that "clear" either...

Woah.
That is beautiful. I'm genuinely stunned. I didn't think computers could do
that.
Can I get the source to that? :)
Or at least a render big enough to use as my backdrop (1280x1024). Please?

The photons add much to the glass. Did you change the board a slight bit BTW
(larger seams perhaps)? I think it looked better before.

The "black" ones look blue and purple to me.

Go into a dark room at night and shine a pen light at a piece of leaded
crystal.

I got to learn how to use photons. It would be cool to make a lot of different
chess sets with different themes. Are the pieces lathes?
