render time just over 8 hours inc parse, modelled in rhino, scene laid out
in moray, mangled by hand.....
mega pov defiantly does not like shorthand translations and rotations!
eg
rotate -27.0*z
as outputted by moray works fine in mega pov until you put the version line
in, and it chokes. (error is expected } but found * instead)
after manually altering all the rotations and translations, I discover that
the camera is now not pointing in the exact same direction as before, gave
up and moved the bottle a bit closer, so the final render is not exactly the
view I was aiming for, but don't the photons look pretty (grr)
I am not a pov coder, that's the reason I use moray. I only wish either
moray
would not use shorthand, or megapov would not choke on it (only in mega pov
mode I might add)

oh yeah, forgot to mention - the reason it has the povray.co.uk bg again, is
that i am going to put this and the mug in the object library when i
eventually get those parts written :)
that and i wanted to have a 2 tone repeting floor that was not a checkered
plane.

Nice work.
I like the meniscus on the oil, though maybe the curvature shouldn't stop so
suddenly it should gradually become flat. how about a Povray label on the
bottle?

Nice, i'm only missing reflection photons.
Maybe a version without the thread and a with cork would look more
adequate for oilve oil, right now it looks a bit like a bottle of medicine
:-)
BTW, how long does it take to model such a thing in rhino?

I'm regularly using such shortcuts but never had problems in megapov.

I've never had any problem with them, and use them fairly often, but I
usually reverse things from what you showed:
rotate -z*27
My first thought is that it must be something to do with promoting the
float value of 27 to a vector before multiplying by z, but the error
message seems to indicate it messes up before then...and as far as I
know, that section of the code hasn't been messed with, except for
adding a ^ operator, and it works in other cases...

its exactly the same as the 3 year old bottle we have here - don't use it

I have no idea, used 1.33 (water) as it looked nice.
the best caustics are in the bottles shadow, which i think helped to
highligt them, i did quickly try a couple of other lighting arangements, but
liked this best.

I tried exactly the same in megapov 0.7 and had no problems, same in 0.6a.

Hmm, could this be a platform/download thing? Have you tried redownloading
and installing it? It could simply be something broke in the transfer.

Well, I don't know if this is any help or not, but 1,2,3 Propan-triol
(also known as Glycerol) has the same IOR at 20 degrees C as borosilicate
glass. Unfortunately I don't know any numbers off the top of my head.
OK, scratch that, apparently olive oil has an IOR of 1.47, as according
to :
http://oldsci.eiu.edu/physics/DDavis/3050/Ch16R&R/Intrnl.html
You know, sometimes I really like Google...
Bye for now,

Whoops, that should really have been Propan-1,2,3-triol...
Never mind.

Same here. Most of my transforms are shorthand and I have yet to see a
problem. MP 0.5, 0.6, 0.6a and 0.7.

Probably not. as the CRC of the zip file (or .tgz) would have caught
it.
I suspect drunk driving. Rick should post a more complete example of
what is not working.

i know i can, however its what is outputted by moray that i am working with,
and works perfectly till i add the version info, then it all falls down, i
dont want to have to start manually editing my scenes, especially as some
can get extremly complex with many layers of csg involving hundreds of
objects! (which is the reason i use a modeller!)

There really is something weird with your installation, since I do this kind
of thing all the time, and have never had a problem. Perhaps something else
weird in your code, that just causes the break there?

_Exactly_ what version info do you put in, and where do you put it? I
use the shorthand rotates/translates using (float)*(axis) all the time
in Win versions of MegaPov, PoVMan etc. I've never used Moray, but I
can't see this particular shorthand causing a problem with any
unofficial version.
