He may have the "delete messages after x days" option set in Outlook
Express. I still have all the of the old images. It's certainly not a
problem with the program, nor anything to do with "some webmaster", it would
be a user configuration problem.

I had this the other day on a new install of outlook. I reset the folder and
re-downloaded the posts.
I then went and searched in Tools/Options/Maintenance and turned off the
"delete downloaded messages after x days" option.
Another dodgy default IMHO.

Yes, it is more fun to bash MS than to learn how to use it.

This is wonderful! I thought the old pictures were gone for good but it was
just my reader. Gonna go through all my groups and see what
oldies-but-goodies I can find.
Sure wish I could cancel my post from 2019 (damn bios)... sorry 'bout that

I downloaded
binaries.animation and
binareis.images
in July this year.
Was about 150, 200 MB large dbx files.
Now they are both around 1 MB.
I never set something to expire messages,
so I thought, the newsserver expired the
old messages

thats only a number.

The news server doesn't expire old messages in this group. In fact I think
the only group it ever did expire messages in was povray.off-topic (that was
with a two week period).
You'll probably find if you look up the options under Tools -> Options ->
Maintenence you'll find your answer.

It's gone. It must've gotten purged. Seems like there's only a years worth
of messages in here now.

It wasn't me who first complained about security... and I'm not
bashing it either (knowing that you're around :) ) . I just supposed
that if one has been using a program for so long, one has configured
it to one's taste, so the problem must lie somewhere else.
I hope the original poster overcomes his problem with OE.
