Really simple, but it looks nice! And in my opinion you shouldn't use a
chequered floor. This would disturb this image.

i agree, but just a plane old grey also doesn't do justice. sure, it
contrasts with the vivid colors or the marbles, but something more "real
world" might look nice too.

Nice. I like it. I've had similar feelings. My work just doesn't
compare to the artistry others post here. Then I think back
to the simple joy I had 10 years ago with glass and chrome
spheres, and realize that simple can be beautiful!
Thanks for the marbles.

The simple beauty of Povray 3.5's ray-tracing power. I like this image, I
have made many similar in the past, they really show the power of Povray
and the beauty of it is that they are very simple to make.
Here's the easiest way to get started:
Start a new scene, Menu: Insert -> Scene Templates -> Photons scene.
Remove the cylinder,
Add more spheres and use different colored glass textures ("textures.inc"
contains some more glass examples)
Add radiosity, play with the camera, lighting (area light is best) and
floor...
And you are more than half way there.
