I have been rendering these during the last weeks in several parts, didn't
record the render time, but it was quite long.

Posters of the full size renders are available on zazzle:

http://www.zazzle.com/posters/gallery/product.asp?product%5Fid=70012958
http://www.zazzle.com/posters/gallery/product.asp?product%5Fid=70012962
http://www.zazzle.com/posters/gallery/product.asp?product%5Fid=70012964

The simulation is done with my mechanics simulation patch (still in work,
see the animations in p.b.a.) - guess how many spheres...

This looks great! I too would like to see the animation. When you say "quite
long time" I suppose you mean hours for the calculation of the balls? If so,
this must be because the 3 frames need to calculate all the steps
in-between.. So an animation would be faster.

The laws of physisc suggests that the pyramid would collapse on it's own.
How did you make it stand and still blow up realistically when the big ball
hits? Maybe this is very simple. But I wonder how you implement the laws and
at the same time, not implement them.

As always, I'm looking forward to see your system is released.

Hugo

Very nice indeed!!!

Is it just me or are the sphere's getting smaller? and if so why?

Bah, it's not the simulation that's slow but the rendering.

It is, you just have to throw the ball fast enough to hit the pyramid
before it collapses. The pyramid balls are standing still at the
beginning while the large ball is moving at high speed. The whole time
covered by the three pictures in not even a second.

If not either the first one would heve beeen very small or in the last one
the more distant parts would be cut off.

I just had a good look at the pictures and I realised that's the case. DUH.

But thanks for answering anyway!

Assuming a) a perfect tetrahedral setup with 30 layers and
		b) I can count (not necessarily a good bet)

Then I would hazard a guess at 4960 small spheres and one big one, and
possibly a sky_sphere too :)

Jamie.

Wrong.

The mistake you are making is assuming the bottom front line you see is
the bottom line of balls of the original tetraeder - it isn't because the
whole thing is falling.

In fact there are 5985 spheres.

Objection Yeronner!

Going by the assumptions I elaborated, I think I was correct. You never
said I had toplay by your rules :P

Bah! I'm not playing this game any more! <grin>

I counted 28 rows up the side.
You counted 30 rows across the bottom.
Apparently he used 32.
I should have guessed.
After all, we are (mostly) all programmers aren't we?
