Have I missed something obvious?

This sky is meant to go from black at a point near the nadir
to full green at the antipodal point near the zenith.
(It's one layer of a composite, separated here for clarity.)
There ought not to be any edges in it, let alone multi-lobed edges!

(The thing in the middle is - yes! - a shiny sphere.)
