Here's another shot at the arched hallway, with a slightly different
POV, a better stained glass window, a statue (or at least a placeholder
for one) and no candlelight. Per Slime's suggestion, I've moved the
light from the window away from dead center. Some post-processing was
done in Photoshop to brighten up the scene.. for some reason, using a
stronger light outside the window doesn't have any appreciable effect on
the radiosity, even though max_sample is set to 100, much higher than
any of the samples it would conceivably be taking. I'm not sure what's
causing the banding on the carpet either.

Once again I seem to have created a scene which won't get its final
render until I get a newer machine. Sigh...

Nice image! What kind of gamma settings do you have cause this is really
black on my screen here is a version corrected to look better on my own
screen, how does this look on yours?

Gamma 1.8, like most Macs.. and if you think it looked dark, you should
have seen what it looked like before I Photoshopped it. ;)

(I might have brightened it up almost as much as you have here, except
that as you can see the image gets really grainy and the radiosity
artifacts go from visible to "sore thumb".)

That probably is from the normal, yeah. It seems to cause aliasing
artifacts at that resolution. Not much I can do about it except get rid
of the normal or go on vacation somewhere for a week.

Well, unless this image is supposed to look fully real, I don't mind those
spots. The walls look less defined and raytraced, but more dusty. I suppose
you're after that look.. It won't do in an animation, though..

It's daylight around here at the moment, and so I prefer Thomas's version.

They're definitely there on purpose, but the lack of antialiasing makes
them stand out more than they really should.
