The clouds have a bit too much small turbulence around the edges but the 
rest is very nice.

How'd you get the glow to..er..glow on the camera side of the mountains?

Regarding the glow, you are basically looking down the barrel of a
scattering media filled cylinder aimed at the sun.

I agree, the clouds do not quite conform to "realisim". There are
various inconsistancies which pop out at you once you identify them.

If I may be permitted to withold the source (since I'm not sure yet how
robust the whole atmosphere technique is) and give a brief general
description instead.

The sun is a distant light_source.
The terrain is a regular height_field.
The atmosphere is composed of (simplified):
sphere{
  -y*earth_radius, earth_radius+atmosphere_height hollow
  pigment{clear}
  interior{
    media{scattering{1 rgb sky_blue}}
    media{absorption rgb <1,1,1>-reddening_color}}
  }
  translate <camera_position>
}
The sun glow is achieved by looking down a long scattering media filled
cylinder which is pointed at the sun.
The clouds are based on the technique described at
http://www2.taconic.net/bullfrog/sky/lightsourced_clouds/simple_bumpshaded_clouds.html
(please forgive the incompleteness of the site at this time).

As others have said the glow effect is stunning, I'm expecting to see an
American Indian ride along the mountain on a horse any minute. 

The clouds do look flat but you already know that.  Keep us posted.
