Okay, you got me. So it's a small plain - or a mesa?

Ahh! Actually I think it must on the top of Mount Lookitthat , given the 
dense atmosphere blotting out said horizon ... :-)

Cool function.
Does the shape start from one point at the top, or does it get infinitely
smaller at the poles?
Does the ratio of space to material stay equal from the poles to the
equator?
Is the size of the strip at the equator a function of the radius?
What's the render time for the shape?

Nice to see other sphere spirals.

I too had plans for reflective sphere
spirals over a chequered plane, but now
you have beaten me to it.

But shouldn't the sphere be reflective ?


The checker pattern for my plane will
not be made with squares. Instead it
will be rather "exponential".

If you want a horizon, try adding a plane with a texture and normal map to
make it look like the iso-plane at far distances, and then place it at the
same height as the iso-plane, but cut out from it a box the same shape as
the iso-plane.
