hi all,

here is the scene that that pink rug image came from (the gridded
turbulence post from 2 days ago).
the animation is rendering currently, my computer at work is free for
the next 3 weeks, so i'm going for quality overkill :).
the animation (which i'll post next year(!)) is simple of the grass
blowing in the wind, and i hope it works (i've had time for only afew
tests).
this pic took about 50 mins to render.
the scene was created with mpov06a, using the pattern image type to pipe
a texture straight through to the height field (later i'll render the hf
for speed, at the moment it regenerates a static hf every frame),
trace() to place the grass and rock limpets over the scene (constantly
referencing the hf texture to check if the trace was on the rocks or on
the sand), radiosity for that georgeous finish, and a nice arealight.

i can post the source later, i haven't quite finished the scene (mainly
background and stuff floating thru the air), and the grass algo was
rushed so they aren't all perfect strands, but the source is an utter
pig sty! I'll see how it ends up!

does any one here know aphex twin's track called Blue Calx (sel. ambient
works vol.2 disc2 track 1)? That, i'd have to say, would be the perfect
sound track to this animation.

Anyway, i'm off for my christmas break. See you in 3 weeks!

the pink rug, actually, defines the grid i was using to send down trace()
samples onto the landcsape.

Definately! I can't wait to see the animation now. That album is so
good. it's a good still image, animated would be nice.

Ben,

That is truly beautiful. I would definitely like to see the source if/when
you post it.

Not heard a great deal of Aphex stuff, although I'm a fan of Chris
Cunningham's video work (he did the Come To Daddy video). My fave electronic
artists are called Boards Of Canada. Anyhow, I'm well off-topic now, so I'll
go.

All the best,

Andy Cocker

Never heard it, but it's nice to know that other people imagine what music
goes with their ray traced animations. I thought maybe I was weird or
something because I do that too.

Dave

Whoo, imaginative (is that a word?).
I like the colour scheme.
Is that pebble in the left front floating?

I'm curious about the animation.

Of course, one of my favourite songs by Aphex Twin! And you're right, it
looks like it would :)

Hey nice to see some other people that like Aphex Twin :) I'd also love to
see an animation.
