Pretrace is useful, but not critical, at normal error_bound settings. As
you lower error_bound, it becomes more and more important.. until at
some point, it suddenly doesn't matter at all.

That point seems to be well below .3, but I'm not sure how MUCH below..
it might be scene- and/or render-dependent.

As I've said before the cool thing about the splotchiness of radiosity is that
it looks like the defects in real paint, moreso than you'd ever see if one
used wrinkles in your color map.
