I can't find the original thread on making a composite night and day
from the images of lights at night and maps of the day. I suggested two
spheres with a slight displacement. That is in the first attachment. The
result is the second attachment.
Notes:
This is quick and dirty without any attempt to sync the rotation angle
of the images. Also the night image appears to be missing a few degrees
at the poles so some judicious resizing may be required. I am not sure
yet. The earth image is the one I created and posted several time
earlier.

The Berkeley mpeg_encode compiled for linux.
