these seem much more 'toony' than your previous work, almost begging to be
animated with a toon filter :))

Being as I was a Navigation specialist, once upon a time, in the Navy,
and that I've been doing a lot of research on aircraft running lights
for my own fighter, I have to pick a nit here... in both images, you
have a centerline / top light which is red... this should be either
yellow or white, as it's not port / starboard, but anticolision, and
ideally, it should also blink. (Yes, I know these are still images.
Shush).

Otherwise, I like the basic shapes. They sort of remind me of something
from the original Heavy Metal movie, though, as someone else said, they
are kind of 'toonie.

Are these blob objects?

I liked the first one more in the original version, the lighting looks too
conventional now IMO.

I'll say it again: It is entirely unfair for you to be this much
better than the rest of us.

Why such heavy heavy contrast in the texturing? And the saturated auras?

I know Howard is probably not reading this thread, but I'm such a geeky
girl I had to go and check what I'd said. For anyone who's interested,
the applicable regulations are in 1999's CFR Title 14, Volume 1,
sections 23.1383 - 23.1401.

Left and right running lights (left and right being defined as relative
to an observer facing forward along the axis of the aircraft) (On a
surface ship we'd say port and starboard) should be red and green,
respectively (there are regulations for exactly what color they should
be; the curious can look them up), visible from dead ahead to 20 degrees
abaft the beam. The top light should be white,
and located as far aft as practical, so as to give an arc of visibility
70 degrees to either side of dead astern.

Anti-collision lights should be located around the craft in such a way
that they do not block the position lights, and should be either white
or red, and should flash between 40 and 100 times per minute.

Aren't you all just thrilled to know that?

Dear Geeky Girl,

Thrilled ? No. Concerned ? Yes. I worry about any person who starts quoting
the US Code of Federal Regulations in these news groups.

Yes that's good info, I wouldn't know wher to find it if I
wanted to know, but now I've got it right here in p.b.i.

The bit about the flash speed of the colision lights is
useful for animations.
