Works fine in Netscape 4.7 and IE 3, link or location. New IE users seem
to be the only ones affected.

Netscape 4.7 and IE 5 here. I get a 403 with both on the direct link.
The location works but it just transfers me to kivisalo.net

Yes. :)

Your visual system is sensitive to light ratios. The ratio of intensity
of adjoining pixels is negligable, so if not seeing the picture as a
whole you don't see the contrast.
