Some tries for irregularities in the wood, the upper plank uses good old
black_hole warps positioned on the surface of the wood by the macro.
It would be nice to be able to change the color at the knotholes, but
right now there is no way to determine the position of black_hole warps
placed with repeat and turbulence. Placing the single knotholes would
only help if i use a fairly complicated and slow function pigment.
The second plank has a changing surface roughness done with a gradient
pigment_map.
The cylindrical wood uses a displace warp for disturbing the wood
structure.
Comments welcome,
Christoph

looks very good! :-))
Can you make the radius of the knotholes more randomized? it looks strange....

Thanks.

Not that easy, they are repeated black_hole warps, and the turbulence only
affects position. I will probably have to use more different warps, right
now there are only two of them.

Couldn't you do it using vturbulence() or vwarp()?

Or you could just generate a bunch of randomly placed ones, possibly
using a pigment to control their distribution(with eval_pigment()).

Neat! :-)
What pigment did you use for the displacement? And what kind of
displacement?
These are very nice results...keep up the good work.
