The pattern on the floor/wall looks good.

No ideas about development, but it's a real good start.

The sphere would look kind of cool with a screaming face on it.. IMO, of course.

We are the Borg. Resistence is futile. Prepare to be assimilated.

Yeah, make it into some kind of Borg sphere or something.

That's what I though of, too.

It looks like a Borg pod last seen exploding in "StarTrek:First Contact".

Cool image, Rune.

My suggestion would be to animate it, with kind of a transcendtal anime
style slow motion explosion. With some overly melodramatic music in the
background if you can swing it.

I'm not sure what you mean. As picture of a screaming face mapped onto the
sphere?

Hmm, I'm not sure I want to animate it. Sorry!

The sphere is made of 6 faces, like if it was a cube. Each face has 4x4
pieces. Each piece is an intersection of 4 planes and a sphere, and then a
smaller sphere is differenced away from it. All the pieces are mapped with
bump_maps. Some of the pieces are translated a bit away from the center.
That's it, basically.

I was thinking more along the lines of displacement mapping.

Wicked cool. Maybe change the green glow to a more
"techie" blue or cyan glow, but otherwise, don't change it!
It's perfect!
        Is the background an imagemap?

I've made some minor changes to the image and uploaded a 800x600 version to
my website.

The source code is also available from there.
