Hi
Work in progress. The sun is yet another glow, thanks H.E. strangely though,
if I try to make it red or orange it dissapears? The grass is placed using a
mixture of trace and eval_pigment with a spotted pattern. The footsteps are
an agate normal. The clouds are media and need some more work.
The grass is from my grass macro, thanks Tor Olav for the help. and is
rather dull due to the lighting not much I can do about it , any ideas
anyone.
The title, well wait and see.
All the best
Mick

Make the grass double_illuminating. And I can't really help with the
disapearing glow. One thing you might try is to change the color of the
light, not the color of the sphere.

Yep, that seems to be the problem. Trouble is I like the light color so
I'll just have to put up with a yellow sun.
Double_illuminate sounds interesting - I'll try that, thanks for the tip.

The shaded sides of the dunes seem too dark, especially since there should be
quite a bit of scattered light from that cloud cover.
Perhaps you should try placing the grass in some slope/altitude dependant
pattern (although you might have to do this with trace, I'm not sure if the
"slope" pattern would work with eval_pigment). A line of grass running straight
across a dune seems a bit strange to me.

The slope pattern requires intesection information, so it will not work
with the eval_pattern() or eval_pigment() functions. You would have to
do your own slope pattern with the trace() function.

Looks like it's going to be some *very* tricky lighting there. Interesting to
see how the final works out. Good luck!

Hey, Mick, let's see the d_i version, hmm? Or is it still rendering? :)

Her's the d_i version as you can see the grass is much lighter and has more
definition and interest.

Sorry Mark, yer wrong, it's more like:
"I'm the king of the castle, you're a dirty rascal" From a childhood game
and a particular memory.
though i must say I like your quote, might try something on those lines

I think the placing of the grass will need a lot more work, at this stage I
was just happy to get trace and eval_pigment working together. I want to try
and break up the grass on the top of the dunes, my next challenge. BTW can I
use an image_map with eval_pigment? then I can paint the location of the
grass. The lighting is meant to be early evening - yes, the sky is probably
too bright another factor to fiddle with!

You sure can.

I won't even attempt judging if it looks right - I've witnessed much less
realistic evening skies in the "Big Blue Room" :)
If anything, perhaps the upper atmosphere should be a deeper blue, or perhaps in
places a slightly greenish hue.

I must say, I didn't expect the improvement to be so dramatic. The grass looks
great now.

It could also be Hayling Island, south coast. Fantastic dunes there.

You mentioned that the sky will still need to be worked on, so I thought
I'd pass on a couple of subtleties that jar my eye a bit. First is the
scale - I think my eye expects them to diminish or flatten more towards
the horizon. Second is the regularity of cloud distribution - it wants
some clear sky or solid cloud bank for tension; somewhere for the clouds
to go to or come from.
These were my initial thoughts on the image.
I like the dunes...
