For this image I used some of Alf Peak's code in his post
"Golden Ratio" to p.t.s-f 31. Aug;
(news://news.povray.org/39ad9be0%40news.povray.org)
in combination with my AntiBlobs macro.
Comments are welcome.

This would look interesting if you embedded the blob in a wall and used
an image for pigmentation.. instant Fibonacci mosaic art.

Looks good for some ground paving, just add some sand between, maybe scale the

This is a little bit off topic, but not too much since raytracing is all
about math.
Anyone interested in mathematics and/or the golden ratio and/or pi should
check out the film called "Pi". See http://www.pithemovie.com for more info
about it.

I like that idea. Thanks.
I guess I need MegaPOV to that...
Or is it possible to read from an image file with
standard POV ?

I'll try to post the code later today.
I'm not quite satisfied with the AntiBlobs macro yet.
For this image I replaced this line;
#local NStrB = (Trh - StrA*PowA)/PowB;
in the macro, with this line;
#local NStrB = -abs((StrA*PowA - Trh)/PowB);
But I have do some more math-thinking to see
if I can make this macro better.

I would like to see this film, but unfortunately I haven't
seen any advertisements for it here in Norway.
But maybe I can order a DVD-copy of it.

Not unless it is an ASCII format. However, you could position the blob
component at the origin, rotate an image map so the portion of the image
the blob will represent is also at the origin, and scale it up by a
large amount, so the whole component is a single color. Doing this, you
could make it *look* like each blob component has a solid color.
Using the eval_pigment() function would be much more elegant, though...

Great idea !
I have now tried this with an array of spheres. => See attached image.
Is this a well known technique ?
Now I have to go and try to use this on my antiblobs,
as Xplo Eristotle suggested.

I used a part of the first image on this page:
http://www.wadhome.org/frazetta/overview0002.html
(Not really: Some years ago I scanned my Frazetta

pseudo colours to the image.)

An interesting idea...anyone want to write a uu-decoder in POV-Script?
:-)

Ouch, did I really write "rotate"? I meant "transform"...
> Is this a well known technique ?
If it is, I have not seen it...it was just something I thought of as I
was writing that the eval_pattern() patch was the only way to do it. :-)
I highly doubt I was the first to come up with this idea, though,
especially since there have been mosaiac images in the past using
official POV.
> > Using the eval_pigment() function would be much more elegant, though...

But it requires a patched version of POV.
And if you want to do something to the objects themselves that depends
on the color, or if you want to make them light sources or something,
you do have to use eval_pigment().

Nonsense. Making 600,000 tiny isosurfaces and tracing them onto a
surface is a GOOD idea. :P

My version of the glow patch is based on MegaPOV, which has
eval_pigment(), so I didn't mention that. Though it would be a problem
with POV-AFX...

Here's my own attempt at a Fibonacci antoblob floor... I got tired of
waiting and made my own source ;-) I don't fully understand how to do it but
I'd like to have larger gaps between the tiles.

If you look at the source code I just posted,
you will find a comment I made in the code
that shows how to move them a little bit apart.

I've done this by saving the image imn ppm format.
Then search/replace space with comma (POV needs commas between values)
and stripping the header except the dimensions (it's handy to leave
these in).
Now you can read it with POV.

I like that one Tor. I'm jealous.
Now, if you scale the blobs larger as they move outwards, and increase
distance from center after each blob, pow(radius,??), then this would
be what I would have liked to achieve. I can do this with spheres but
your antiblobs would give a more realistic result and avoids the
spheres intersecting :)
I must find time to play with your AntiBlob macro.

Have fun !
(The math in this macro may need some adjusting,
and I'll look into that a day when I'm in math-mode. :)

Can you please tell me where can I find appropriate
information about the ppm format ?
(I.e. Info about structure of the header- and colour-
information.)
And is there any "free" programs that can convert to
this format ?

Free as in price or philosophy?
Free or low in price:
POV-Ray. :-)
GraphicConverter(not free, though nicely priced shareware, Mac only).
I don't know of any others, though that is mostly because I have never
used the format. Programs that use QuickTime can *read* it with no
problem...

In my p.t.s-f post replace constant size spheres:
sphere{ z*Rad, 0.1 rotate y*Count*Inc }
with spheres of increasing size:
sphere{ z*pow(Rad,1.4), Rad/16+0.055 rotate y*Count*Inc }
( You can delete the blob and bounding sections)
