I have been thinking of getting back into hand coding a bit, haven't
done any in......forever almost. I'd also like to learn to use macros.
So I think I might combine the 2 and make my own Diamond image. I have
some neat ideas involving a lot of facets and glass....see you in a few
years. Can anyone give me any accurate information on diamond cutting?
For example some popular diamond cuts, how many facets etc..

Hi Thomas,

a brilliant-cut diamond has 58 facets including the
'table', the top. I believe that they are arranged in 30/60 degree angles.

Try this page for a good top view.

Hope this helps. ~Steve~

I will let you count the facets, but the classical angles are about 43, 44 and
45 degrees (at least in my books). You may have to adjust the 43/44 according
to the IOR (not for diamond, but zyrcon may have a different angle...)

I made a brilliant-cut some time ago; have a look at
 http://www.citeweb.net/grimbert/pov/objet.html

Now, if you find the gem-cutting manual for other cut,
you're very welcome to share.

     Hi J Grimbert,
I digress, you were close. Closer than me anyway.
Here are the actual cuts and angles.

      All the best, ~Steve~

If you want to look at other diamond macros, there were some diamond
-code postings to povray.binaries.scene-files in May and June.

Here are some links I posted to this group 28. May this year:

Sorry, forgot to check descreening...

Brilliant full cut - at least 32 cuts plus table on top, at least 24 on
bottom
