it because it of the way the plates appear to intersect, and because it
has a delicate fractaline appearence. The real one also bends noticeably
under its own weight and responds to vibration with an interesting
spring-like motion. I will probably do a better render with radiosity
and some dramatic camera angle or something...
It's formed by placing plates edgewise between nubs on adjoining plates,

high-tension plastic. The gray, black and green "trees" are seperate
except for where they join at the base. It balances on three legs that
connect at right angles, akin to the edges of a cube.
Building it was quite difficult; you must keep it balanced properly, and
you cannot have a critical juncture with too much load in one direction
because it will snap out of it's neghboring plate, and you must not
jiggle it too much while placing pieces, and you must be careful not to
bump it... This is the last of eight I started; 6 did not survive
construction, 1 was destroyed before I could digitize it, and the last
made it into POV, though it did break just before completion and part of
the gray tree had to be rebuilt. IMHO some of the original seven were
much more visually appealing, but what're ya gonna do...

Questions/comments?
