Here is an image that just sort of happened. I used POV-Ray, Moray, the
Galaxy include file from Chris Colefax, and the Moray Galaxy plugin by Keith
Hull.
Comments, criticisms are welcome.

Very cool picture. The galaxy looks great - I use Chris Colefax's file all
the time, but I'd like to be able to get the 3D "Cloud" effects that you've
got here. I guess I'll have to try the plugin you mentioned.
All the little Earths are oriented with N. & S. America facing toward the
camera - maybe try rotating the Earth a little each time.

Very nice. Try adding a little reflection or other finish on the spiral
thing to get rid of the plastic look.

That nebulosity is great, looks like a telescopic view with the eye, not
camera, were it not for the diffraction spikes. At least I've never seen any
through a telescope, I believe that's pretty much a time-exposure phenomenon
(and dust, and lense, and ?). Too bad about the clipped off edge at upper
left.
The Earths have a very floating look to them, weightless in space and all,
nice. And a kind of artificial+natural thing about it all too.
