After playing around with other formats and files I decided that this model
that I donwloaded and converted was just of poor quality, next time I'll
sort it out, before I arrange and texture it! Anyway I'm having fun working
out how to use more than one texture and masking bits out using the alpha
channel, though I only used two and so the front looks a little pants, it
was fun making it.

Didn't someone (John VanSickle?) make a triangle subdivision utility?

He did. The SSS (Surface Subdivision Suite) can also calculate the
triangle normals without any subdivision. See my reply to Peter's
previous post about the Beetle.

Yup. I never care to post URLs anymore as either people know about
Ken's links and seek it there or Ken pops up and posts a link :)
