Sigmund's diamond posts have inspired me to try a diamond with
photons....
this is my try any comments and suggestions would be greatly admired....
FYI i shot 4 million photons at this diamond and only took about an
hour to render. and the source code for the textures will be in the
P.B.Scene-files.

Very nice, but looks more like ice than diamond.
Also, some very circular whatchamacallits at the front...

Lacking visible facets but the photons are scattering around well enough. By
that I just meant there isn't the obvious set of plane surfaces. No ambient
and diffuse at all then? Possibly no reflection either? It's not easy to see
if so (reflection).

I think it needs more photons. I was recently battling this same problem and
found that I had to crank the photon count up really high.

Ooops, I spoke too soon - I didn't read the fine print. If its 4
mega-photons, and it took an hour, that seems reasonable. Sorry for the
babble.

It's hard to make out the facets. I'm using reflection to see them. I see
from the source that you're using a transmit value. I can't think of an
argument why you shouldn't; I've just never used transmit with glass and
such.
Your caustics are nice.. I'm still not happy with mine.

That's because glass, gems and liquids filter light.
