Supposed to have been trying to wind rope around a ring. As usual my
mind went walkies. Glass beads on a light-looks_like torus thingy.
Don't know why caustics are not a regular pattern, and they alter if
any change made to photons block. 3h 16m with Celery500 and dos
megapov.

Wow, povray has been ported to vegetables? :)

It's pretty neat, but why is the center completely black (without
caustics)?

I imagine the light source is directly in the center of that blackness. The
torus is not giving off light, it's just not casting shadows either.

We got fast veggies here in Wales ;) Never heard of a fast-food store?

Unfortunatly, looks_like still behaves as a point source here and
washes out the center so I used a disc with a hole. The torus has
ambient 1 but does'nt contribute to the light.
