As a part of my "publish-those-old-images" program I found this image I made
about a year ago. Back then I lost interest for it and never came around to
publishing it. However, when I recently looked at the image again, I though
it deserved to be published. I made a few adjustments, and this is the
result.

What do you think of it? Does it need improvement? The image is supposed to
be kind of surrealistic. Does it qualify? Maybe I should add a strange
flying thing far away in the sky. All feedback is appreciated!

Greetings,

Rune

Yup. You could also shroud the tower with some emitting media of some sort
to give it a magical quality.

It seems lacking. I would suggest adding some detail to the textures, and fix
the lighting (the tower looks almost flat). Perhaps Tony was right about
media...

With the tower perhaps you could take the equation for a cone (it is a cone
isn't it) and add/subtract the crackle pigment function and make it an
isosurface so the sides are not flat (contained_by a elongated cube/box)

Apart from that its pretty good

I don't think I'll do that, but I'll try out atmosphere. :-)

That would be my first isosurface...

Well, I'll try to learn how to use it... :-)

Did you think I meant the old POV-Ray feature "atmosphere"?
I meant atmosphere made with media of course... :-)

Thanks! (And thank you too Ken!)

I used an isosurface with a crackle function, and it did indeed look better!

Still much work to do though, so it may take a while before I post a new
version...

Actually, yes. :-)
That is why I was surprised, thanks for clearing it up.(Sorry for the
pun, it just came out that way.)

Keep in mind that I made the image long before the movie LOTR was made.

The message you replied to was posted on April 30 2000 - that's almost two
years ago.

I never got around to publishing the image it seems...

Have you still got the image Rune? I'd be interested in it.

The image or the source?

Well, I've got both, but now I've gotten interested in it myself, and I
might work some more on it before publishing anyting... :)

I'm thinking isosurface tower, realistic grass, and other things...

True- but I very much doubt that you made the image before Tolkien wrote the books.
Anyway, the phrase "eye tower" reminded me of
something from the book, so...
