I'm seeing this as very flat, with little contrast.  Maybe turn up 'assumed_gamma'?
When AA is used those stars should even out though.

A big improvement over the first.  I think it was just that pink nebulous background
that
distracted me.
What's with the bloated gamma-corrected jpg you posted as well?  About 4 times the
file size of this one...

This looks fine enough to me (regarding jpeg compression), but the brightness is up
too
much now.
I hadn't realized it before how you've made a 3D nebulosity using a torus I guess. 
Gives
it a sense of swirling space debris.
