I just figured out what really bothers me about this image.  The shadows
are way, waaay too dark.  Add  an ambient of .1 or above.  The sun is
shining!  The sky is blue! (add a shadowless blue light at about 100000*y
or so. this can take the place of ambient.)

You need to also shift the color of the sun-light towards the yellow to
compensate for the blue sky-light
