Reminds me of a story, possibly apocryphal but plausible, of a small
town in Ontario with a mixed Irish population, and hence both an Orange
Lodge and a St. Patrick's Society or whatever. Only thing was, there
weren't enough of either to put on a really decent parade, so on St.
Patrick's Day the Orangemen came out to swell the ranks of marchers and
musicians, and on the Twelfth the Catholics returned the favor and joined
the Orangemen's parade.

No, the article on Ireland in the March-April 00' issue of Mother Jones is not
available on the web, only in the paper version.
(btw, there was this humorous piece on Ireland available:
http://motherjones.com/mustreads/031700.html )
Yes, it's always nice when people, who have every right to go to different
pulpits, can celebrate each other's cultural events, like the parades you
mentioned...
My art was inspired in part by the Mother Jones story, in part by a friend (who
manages to be offensively partisan about everything) insisting that ORANGE and
not GREEN should be worn on Patty's Day...
