I love this skin, I'm always interested in old stuff (antiques) and tube
electronics applies too. I never have used Win Amp and this is the incentive to
try it.
I have an aging vinyl album, Oxygene, by J-M. Jarre. Always liked it's hypnotic
bubbly sound.

My grandfather restores antique tube radios, and he taught me the basics
of tube electronics. Interesting stuff...

I think there is a Mac version, MacAmp. I might try it some day...

If WinAmp didn't give my WinNT BSODs, I would certainly use your skin
with it! Much nicer than the original...

Hmm, if WinAmp, perhaps the most widely used app for Windows in the last
few years, gives you BSODs, you have failed to install Windows properly.

No.

Might be that he has just the wrong version of of something for the wrong
ServicePack. Or a different motherboard. Or a different video card. Or an SMP
machine. Or a different audio card. Or different built-in hardware. Or a
different version of DirectX. Or some unexpected stuff in his TEMP directory.
Or some unexpected stuff in his registry...

Just look at the problems Chris Cason had with Creative Labs. If The largest
sound-card manufacturer (who even gets to tell MS how to do some things) can't
even get their drivers right, why do you assume any problems can't be due to
something other than user error?

I myself had a system that would choke on hard video output. MPEG playing, for
example. Immediate death, with not even a BSOD. Just insta-freeze.

Oh, plus MS VJ++ 1.1 had horrible problems with SMP machines. Among other
things, as soon as you'd save some file that was over a certain size....
BOOM!!!
Hmmm. MS's KB search is so bad, I can't find that one off hand. But I did find
Article ID: Q194901 "BUG: Visual J++ 6.0 May Crash When Opening a Large Java
File". Their answer? "It's a bug. Don't make large files".

I've found Winamp to be as much a drain on my system as POV-Ray. Something I
didn't expect and certainly can make MS Media Player look good. Well, scratch
that remark. Winamp does =look= good anyway. Using plugins is the reason for
the resource hogging.

Actually (and I don't believe I'm saying this but it's true) I've seen
an NT machine that was very stable. It was a Compaq server which came
with NT 4 server preinstalled and no other software was ever installed
on it. Everything in the hardware was genuine and the software was the
vital minimum for running a web, mail and ftp server, installed and
configured at Compaq. Needless to say, my brother had an easy time
sysoping the thing, esp. knowing that he had a monthly quota to spend
on tech support :)

<shrug> Any version of Windows works with the bare minimum. And was it
running MS software? And even if it's stable it's still slow.
Here come the bash police...

I find Winamp runs quite well on my system. I can even render without skipping and a
minimal performance decrease.

I used to find that NAD was a good mp3 player, not so bulky as Winamp, only
drawback being that you can't use different skins.
