Shouldnt it be farther from the star in that case? But
you're right, it does bring the old ones to mind :)

This is what makes regular stars look like red giants.

Very nice. I associate to an explosion in a huge alien powerplant...

That is actually closer to my original thought.

Wow, that's one BIG heatsink. I want to have the CPU that will need it
(and compile POV for it!!!)

Seriously now, I think the metal doesn't look hot, just illuminated.
Maybe oxidize it a bit or maybe add something to show it's freezing
cold in the nearer part. Maybe some haze in the distance (then again,
maybe not, as this would indicate an atmosphere is present).

This image could benefit from the soft-glow in MegaPOV, what do you
think?

Well, since this is apparently either in orbit around or surrounding a
star, there wouldn't be any oxidation. :-)

Kick-ass, dude! I like it just how it is, you don't need to do any more.

How was the curviness made, hyperbolas?
It looks like a heat sink or high-voltage electrical equipment.

                            function

(sqr((z/2)*sin(y*36))+sqr(x/180))

+(sqr((x/2)*sin(y*36))+sqr(z/180))
                                            }

Probably could, but I haven't even -looked- at that feature yet.
