Should work just fine, if a little slowly.  But it doesn't use a 
spherical map, so it won't work for this.

O.K. here's where she lives...(earth with a slight attitude and blinn
shading just for fun).
Whenever I play with image_maps I invariably use the ol' earth.png.

I don't know why, but I have the urge to shave off the continents with my
teeth as though they were food... It's a texture thing. I like the image :)
