The water is an isosurface (plane - ripples) with a granite normal.

The boat looks fine to me, but the whole thing seems rather poorly-lit,
even given the cloudy sky. Clouds look a little odd too, but I can't put
my finger on it.

Okay to me too.  If the combined light isn't up to about rgb 1.5 then you might
want to up the color values for the boat to over 1, for example <1.2,1.2,1.2> if
it's white.

i'd give the watter some more directional waves with more variation and
add better texture to the ground it looks very flat, also mabey some of
them cool sun beams we've had around this news group these days

As for the boat, try tilting it up a little and creating a bigger wake.
The water is good on the right, but the ripples are too visible on the
left; it doesn't make sense visually with such even waves coming from
some random point near the shore.
