Is the white ball a "natural" artifact of your colliding beams or is it
just an object placed there?

I bet you could do some really neat stuff by animating that.  Make one beam come in at
a time, and make the white sphere get bigger
and brighter with each one... while the camera spins around it or something... Very
nice.
