1. get an image map of earth from the web.
    for example: http://www.radcyberzine.com/xglobe/index.html#maps

2. create a sphere that you overlay with this image via image_map and
the map_type for spherical maps (I think it was map_type 1). Look into
the manual for image_maps.

Sorry... I guess it's not the first time I've been caught "underquoting" :/
But there wasn't really anything in the text that talked about the earth that
I remember (but I could be wrong). The earth was in the lower left of the
picture HBRon.jpg (the start of this thread).

I've seen some Earth and Solor System models on the net so if they aren't too
hard to understand, I might try one of them.

I think I was there and grabbed that one too... I know I have Chris Colefax's
Galaxy models and those are so neat! Now for the planets. <G>
