Hi everyone I just cot a new computer! Weeeee! Its a PII 400MHz with
64MB of ram and a Graphics Blaster RIVA TNT video card and a Sound
Blaster PCI128 sound card. I've just finished re-installing most of my
win98 stuff and I'd be interested to see how much faster the new
computer is at pov-ray. If anyone out there has a simple image with
render time and parse time specs for a PII-233 with 64MB of ram (That's
what my old computer was) I'd very much like to have it so I can see how
much faster my new computer renders. I don't know if it will make a huge
difference though, I don't have any more RAM than before, but it is the
new faster ram and the system buss is running at 100Mhz.

Anyway if you think this post is way off topic or you think I'm just
gloating about my new comp too much then just let me know and I'll
cancel the message, PLEASE don't flame me though, just post a kindly
worded message asking to remove it:-)

Nice stats, but with this processor, I recommend _very_much_ getting another
64 MB as soon as possible! It's like running a Porsche on Beetle tires
(well, almost ;-)

Yes, I would recommend the exact same thing... or even more memory... My
little "outdated" PII 233 Mhz has 160 Mb of RAM... and I already need more
actually (but that's not to do with the processor) :-( Oh well, I think I
might go out and buy an extra 128 Mb when I get the chance...

Well, I WOULD use an AMD... but I can't... the software I'm running doesn't
support it...

Well, after you get that new memory installed, go and get a Linux CD and do
some real power computing. POV-Ray, Enlightenment, Gimp,
Zooooooooooooomm!!!
RedHat 6.0 was just released, and if you don't want to spend the $39 on it,
just get a cheapbytes CD for $1.99

Oh no! Outdated already.
6.0 was released last Monday. Been a week now. (how long is that in Internet
years?)
(Seriously, I think there's enough new in 6.0 to make it worth while. 2.2 Kernel,
actually released Gnome, better sound support, etc)
