Thought it might be fun for the p.b.i regulars to post their first pics
(whatever you think to be your first.. no rules apply). Kind of like
those pages of baby pictures in all yearbooks.
Here's my first: A toilet (duh).
I wonder what this means?

Ok, I'm game. This was my first render fresh from the starting gates of the
POV tutorials - I remember struggling to figure out how to make the
"cast-iron" texture as well as sitting there with my hand in the air making
sure I had my left-hand thumb pointed in the right direction (for the
rotations). ;-]

Ok,
Here are the earliest images of mine (that I can find). I made these the day
after the first version of Povray with radiosity came out. They were my
first radiosity tests. The box one was made with PovPad, and the other one
was done in Moray 2.5 (I think).
Enjoy.

It means your not quite right in the head (pun!)
My first image rendered actually came out a very pure rgb 0 edge to edge,
if I remember right. My second, or I should say next "real" render would
have gone nicely with that toilet bowl (inside and flushed). Alas, for
nostalgic reasons such as your request to post such here I've since held
onto it in a zip archive. It's also in my gallery I think, but I'll post
here to add to the esteemed collection, of which it is bound to be.

I think it might mean you need a little more privacy when using the toilet. I
usually like a few walls around mine! :-)

I was really proud of this, I used image maps on the spheres,
and kept loosing the flights on the arrows when rotating and
translating them, (the old translate, rotate trick).
I still like the colour of the plane and the way the flights of
the arrows shadows overlap.
I was going to use this as the background for a presentation that
I was doing in PPoint, but left and got a better job instead.
Cheers

I think it is definatly a bit bazaire that you choose to render a 3D Loo,
for your fisrt image, what happened to the checker plane with reflective
sphere?
Maybe you need help.

This is the most ancient image of mine I could find back. It must
be the 3rd, or the 4th... I had a hard time trying to map the sphere,
until I understood that I had to map at the origin, THEN translate the
sphere ! The letters are a heightfield (POV 2.1, circa january 1994).
"elsen" is the name of the firm that my father owns.
Cheers,
Fabien.

Here is my first image...well really I think it is number 2. I am
pretty sure number one was the inside of the Subway sandwich shop I
worked at at the time. You know what? I think this might actually be a
PolyRay image. Does that count or do I need to find my first POVRay
image? This was made in POVCAD, so it could easily have been either, I
just happened to have a CD with PolyRay 1.8 on it, so that is what I
used. I don't think I have any of my really early POVRay images...The
closest I can come is the second one. Both of these were IRTC entries.
The first in the Time round (the first round of the new IRTC) and the
second in the Sci Fi round.

Well, far from my first(don't have them left, any of them) but one of the first
I have left. made in POV 3.0, using halo ...
Font is called Bard.
I made several images with this as a base, including lighting covered, in water,
in smoke, and combined...
here goes...
(I may have source, uncertain..)

Here is what I consider my first finished and complete scene. All coded
by hand and mind bending all the way.
Note: No boxes were hurt during the construction of this scene.

This is better, Real First Images!, you would be surprised at how many of
us, when starting POV made scenes involving..
Cups, Weird HF's, Chess Boards and Coloums!!!
I know I did something with all of these at some point!

A gelatinous torus with a blue ball in the center, of course. j/k
Not much, is it?
If I remember right this would have rendered about a half day on my
486-33SX. That's right, no coprocessor.
Well, I have no idea why you would want the script for it and I was going
to post it here immediately, however, I failed to find it even after a
very in depth search here. To make it worse, while trying to locate the
file, if it still exists, I definately remember naming the image
"within.tga" although the script itself could be named anything
(glsdonut.pov?). Dates back to '93 after all. I even used Windows Find to
look for a possible text string inside all the files. I'm afraid I may
have house-cleaned and deleted the file long ago when I was juggling the
disk space for more renders. I got down to 0 bytes left on many occasions
while attempting animation frame output.
Want to see a quick remake? Here you go, not like the original sadly, this
isn't scene-file worthy so I'll drop it in here relating to this thread:

I know the feeling, my hard drive gave up without warning last week. Lost
most of
my code, all of my image_maps and bump_maps.
This is my first real pic in pov (first was sphere over plane) For a friend
for christmas.
Books by Sonya Robert, chain by someone I don't remember now. Rest my own
work.

The second thing I did, the first is lost (lens on checkers plane with gold
cylinder). Took 37 hours to render (800x600). It almost made me quit POV, what
did I know about render times.

Ok, everyone's doing this so I guess I am allowed as well. This is one of my first
2-3 images (same scene anyway) and was done with POV 3.02 in oktober/november
1996. An exchange student from USA recommended POV when I needed some sort of 3d
program to visualize a house I had made in a cheap CAD program. I was very proud
of the floor - you've guessed it, it's DMFWood6. I just remember thinking "this is
a strange program - it's for visual use, still there's just text to describe the
scene!" Guess times have changed since....

You started well then, my first 20-30 (well, okay, maybe not that many)
images were not too significant, much like my first. In fact I did quite a
bit of rendering other peoples scripts at first.

Oh yaa I didn't notice that, I like playing chess but I'm afraid I don't

can't do anything about it. I lost the source for these long ago.

My humble beginnings were a direct result of the two Pov-Ray books "Ray
Tracing Creations" and I think the other one was "Creating Worlds w/
Pov-Ray" or something similar (they are both packed away now). I also tried
to learn Ville Saari's (sp?) approach to NCC 1701, which resulted in my
first animation (simple translation/time (starship) and rotation/time
(Earth). I also learned the trick of the 12:1 ratio of camera
position-target object in creating 3D animations, and created a fly through
of the "Red Baron" realm (a flight sim).
After that I fell did my first "original" image, was a height_field
generated from one of the few images I had on my disk (a friend had been
kind enough to share a nude, or two via email - that would get me shot these
days).
Anyway, that was in the days of my 386 DX40! :) Gee, how times change.
Well, that image is long gone. I was able to discover the original source
on floppy (one of the few not affected by magnetic migration), so I visited
one of the Tokyo nude sites and captured a similar image for rendering. I
was very disappointed to find it didn't come out anything like the original,
but at least what I had attempted to portray was preserved in part.
So, you get one guess as to what those hills really are underneath that
topsoil! ;)

This is in fact my first image since I rediscovered Povray (I´ve given it up
when on my old Atari a 160*100 test-pic of a box merged with a sphere took
half an hour to render and after that I discovered that my only tga-viewing
program was runing in black/white mode only)
This was my result of a request of our math teacher to create a torus with 7
colors on it each next to each other

Very creative object. I can't possibly see how you got the sectional look
to it. Actual torii pieces, or bump_map normal?

Oh my god no tori pieces!!
I just thought about how to make it look more interesting and then tried to
recycle the image_map as a bump_map
unfortunately it doesn´t look so accurate due to the interpolation I guess
but it did it for my purpose

Ah, okay, that explains it then. I figured the boundary edges of the
sections to be suffering from Jpegism. It worked great then, needless to
say.

Hey, good idea! Here's my first! Many of you have probably seen this
around. However, this time it's JPEG, not PNG. I know many of you are
already cheering :)
Actually, I have _2_ versions of this! I don't know where the other came
from, but it's almost the same with a different lens flare. Maybe one of my
previous renders.
ALSO, someone noted that the ball was reflective, like most other first
attempts. However, it was meant to be this way. If you notice on beach
balls, there is a slight reflection. That's what I was hoping to
accomplish.
Anyways. . .without further ado. . . :)
Adios!
