Very nice, er, thing (?), indeed.  Maybe the background is a 
little too neutral to reveal the full potential of the object...

Such scenes are always fun to see and a pain to render. How long did it
take?
And I really suggest you use photons. The time penalty isn't as bad as one
might think.
