I don't get it... what's the point? (yeah, it's a cheap pun, but someone had
to state the obvious... :-)
BTW, I'm working on a really great model of a really nasty toothpick. The
kind with which you could easily put someone's eye out.
Ok, flame me now...

Yeah, I get ya. I was trying to figure the sword/pover relationship out
myself. And I even did one once so you'd think I'd know. I could guess
it has to be a few combined reasons:
1) Medieval "art" kind of thing (Renaissance maybe?)
2) One of the simpler objects to model
3) Blade fetishes
Don't quote me on the last one please. Thank you :)

I'm thinking of doing a lightsabre. How come nobody's done a blue one
like in the original Star Wars?

Swords and knives are mechanically simple - so anyone can make one, yet
accurate modeling can be a real challange - since blades are more complex
shapes than simply pointy boxes :)
It's the sort of thing that can appeal to new users, and experts alike. Also
they're easy to evaluate.

I think it was just one person which posted an image of a sword,
and then all the persons recognized "he i always wanted to do a sword " or
"i didn't i made an sword last year ?" and so every one is posting a sword,
cause nearly anybody has or builds one.
