Although I don't have the photon patch, I have an idea for all those
that do:

1. Someone think up a nice animation with lots of caustics.
2. That someone tests it in low resolution and without photons
3. Devide this animation between all those who HAVE the photon patch,
each one decides how many frames he wants and which ones
4. RENDER!
5. Each one sends his frames (with loss-less compress, such as ZIP) to
one guy
6. That guy fixes up the final animation and posts it here.

As individual images take dozens of hours to render, maybe the division
should be by lines pre picture and not by frame (for example, one guy
does lines 54-302 in some frame)

Anyway, just an idea, tho it would be nice!
And about the patch, If anyone has patched Povray for Windows 3.1 with
photon mapping, please inform me! i have no intention of doing it
myself...laziness *sigh* ;)

Strange, I would have expected a dozen replies to your suggestion by
now.
You can get the POV Win 3.1 uvpov.exe (photon patch) already.

 http://nathan.kopp.com/patched.htm UVPOV4 is the name.
