If you mean you wan't your flames to light their surrounding, media
alone is not enough. An emitting media is just equivalent to a high
ambient value. To make the chimney lit, the only possiblities I know are
radiosity (probably the best solution with the right settings and
megapov, thanks Nathan) or a light source (area light to get soft
shadows...)
