Thank you Dave

As I'm not very good with textures, I just used the default texture
with a white pigment.

But I used this light setup:

light_source {
    -100*x
    color Gray30 + Red/2
    shadowless
}

light_source {
    -100*y
    color Gray30 + Green/2
    shadowless
}

light_source {
    -100*z
    color Gray30 + Blue/2
    shadowless
}

- which is similar to what Droj used in his code that he posted in
the "2D function to 3D tube" thread. It might be this that makes
the texture look metallic.
