Well it does with a blue sky in the background and subtle shades of grey on
the object.
Add a starscape background, dark shadows and rows of bright pinpoint lights
along the length and it would pass for a space ship (of sorts).

I would say that with a starscape background, dark shadows, and rows of
lights, it would make a *great* spaceship. :-D

Yes. Something shaped like that would work if you build it in space and
never land it, but you could never fly it through an atmosphere.
