Thanks to John VanSickle, I finally found a rather efficient way to make a
fade in animation of my holo-rec room.  I attatched a video which shows the
results of my first tests. It is a bit damadged, but that was an mpeg
compression artifact.

The holo-rec room is a new model I made a couple weeks ago, and the room it
turns into is the old model of the USS Starrider bridge, from my
'technology' round animation entry.

Please leave suggestions for improvement.  I want to perfect this method
before the IRTC becomes active again.

     You think it will become active again? I do too at some stage. But 
when, nobody knows.

Generally it looks nice.

But has the moving thing been left out from the mask? It looks like the 
transition on the wall behind it overlaps with it, which looks a little odd.

Yes.  I noticed that too just last night.  I worked overnight to create a
mask object for the character, which reflecets on an equal basis of the
real thing, for a better look.  It's taking some time to create the mask,
because I never anticipated I would need a plain black-and-white texture,
so it took a while.

I plan to post an improved test shot when I have solved the mask problem.
So far, that is the only solution I have found, but it seems to be working
ok.

The effect is cooler if the shape of the start and end rooms are 
different.  I know that in my shot this was not so apparent, which is 
why I put the rolling tumbleweeds in there.

Well, this was a first test.  Thanks for that tip on the effect.
I am working on a test 3 shot.  Test two was just finished.
