Below are links to my next three file experiments. One is an AVI with MS
Mpeg-4 codec, the other two are WMV. Using MEncoder again. Please try
with MediaPlayer (ESPECIALLY MediaPlayer) as well as Quicktime, Xine, blah
blah blah.
The goal is try to find an acceptable file format & codec for Windows users
to use, using the tools at my disposal. My first file obviously
didn't cut the mustard -- default Mpeg-4 (DivX, it turns out) in an AVI.

plays fine in MP and real player

They download with an .avi extension (?). Plays fine
after removing the .avi MP does not recognize the .wmv file.
Real says
'The file you are attemting to play has an extension that does not
match the file format. Playing the file may result in unexpected
behavior.'
and asks if it should try to play the file, with two options:
'yes' and 'no'. selecting 'yes' will play the file correctly.
Interesting behaviour if you cancel that box, it will keep on
asking the same question ad infinitum even if you select a
yes or no afterwards. Only way to get out of the loop is
removing or renaming the file (for the first three attempts,
now it seems to work correctly (??) )

.avi version worked for me. I'm currently working on an iMac G4 700 Mhz,
w/ QT 6 player. I have the DIVX codec installed.
I didn't try the .wmv files.

Doesn't work, WMP complains.
