At work I was playing around with some ideas for creating metallic paint, like
you get on cars. I'm planning on implementing it in some real-time rendering
code (that's my day job). I mocked it up in povray 'cause it's easier than
implementing it in my own code, and it uses a pretty standard lighting model.

Anyway I came up with a pretty good system so I did this test render, varying
the parameters. For the first half of the animation it cycles through a few
different colours of paint, then in the second half it adjust the "metallicness"
of the material, first to a non-metallic plastic appearance, then to an
extremely metallic setting, and then back to where it was so the animation loops
smoothly.

I'll post the POV source for the texture is in p.b.s-f, in the hope that it will
end up on some of the pov-rendered cars I've been seeing on these newsgroups :)
