Hi Folks,
Thanks to several kind newsgroup people who helped render this animation,
it's finished (three and a half months ahead of schedule!)
Here are links to two versions, a 640x480 mpeg and a 320x240 mpeg:
http://home.mindspring.com/~grasshoppah/mars/Mars320.mpg
http://home.mindspring.com/~grasshoppah/mars/Mars640.mpg
If anyone is interested in the full-size (800x600) version, let me know and
I'll post that too.
Thank you very much to these generous people who helped render:
Tim Nikias (Also optimized source code and solved slow render problem)
Bruno Gimeno
Remco de Korte
Buke
Bob Hughes
Regards,
-Dave Blandston

That looks great!
I was hoping for some sound-effects to go with it :) Maybe some
early-scifi-days tune?

Thank *you* Dave! It looks like fine stuff. Sure is difficult to believe
that still took so long to create though.

I spoke too soon... It should loop nicely the way you cycled the animation,
I guess, and yet MS Media Player catches on the repeat. :-(

hadn't noticed that! That is marvelous! Should try and figure out a way to
run this as a desktop :)

I guess I'll be interested. I've got a speedy
computer and a flatrate, so... Oh, and
I've got at least 50 GB free space, so
lets get to the "original" stuff... :-)
Regards,
Tim

If you have cycles to spare http://www.imp.org/ will be revving up the
renderfarm next week and we can use all the help we can get.

Uhh, I watched this thing for a minute or so and after closing
MediaPlayer the whole desktop seems to come out of the monitor. Weird
optical illusion :-)
But in spite of this: great animation....
